dan estabrook, little devils (2004)

Life has slowed down considerably in the past two weeks. We are working hard on our school work (and personal pursuits), and feel that we have been accomplishing a lot! Robert has finished several new compositions and his plowing his way through his Electronics books. I have been making a lot of new prints in the darkroom, experimenting with new camera techniques and organizing my portfolio for VCU (which is due on the 23rd of this month)!

I've been spending a lot of time researching photographers and have found some incredibly inspiring work. I thought that I would share some of the artists I've come across..

I'm really excited about Dan Estabrook, an artist who works with a lot of different printing techniques and surfaces. Here are some examples of his work, spanning his entire career.

I'm most excited about this next artist, Keith Carter. He's been called a "poet of the ordinary" for his dreamy depictions of familiar objects and subjects (children, still lifes, etc). Unfortunately, I am unable to find large copies of his prints on the internet- he does have a book of recent works for sale and several other published collections.

These following works are by the artist, Josephine Sacabo.

We recently watched Lars Von Triers "Antichrist", which I found to have an incredibly admirable visual tenderness and sensitivity, and a shocking conceptual and physical tolerance for brutality. It has taken me this entire week to reach a full appreciation for the film, every violent moment of it!

Lastly, I would like to include a few prints I've recently made.

Robert and I are going to Warsaw, Poland from May 18th to the 25th to stay with our friend, Paulina. We are bringing all of our luggage from Finland and traveling directly to Spain from Poland, where we will leave all of our belongings and begin a trip through France to Luxembourg, then all the way through Luxembourg to Belgium. Once we've hiked through Luxembourg we are going to fly back to Spain where we will travel to Portugal. I'm excited to see more of Europe, and ready to venture from this white white Finland!
